AFP Triad Board members Laurie Weaver and Brandon Cathey will co-chair the 2018 National Philanthropy Day (NPD), the chapter’s flagship fundraising event to support operations, programming, and scholarships. Cathey is Senior Advancement Officer of Crossnore School and Children’s Home in Winston-Salem. Weaver, President-Elect of AFP Triad, is Senior Director of Philanthropy of the mental healthcare provider, Monarch.

NPD 2018 will take place on Monday, November 19, 2018, at the Grandover Resort.

Last year, Weaver co-chaired NPD 2017 with Marion Ragsdale, Senior Development Associate at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro. In partnership with FOX 8 News (WGHP) the AFP Triad celebrated the 25th anniversary of annual award event, recognizing 14 Triad area individuals for their transformative contributions to local philanthropy. FOX 8 anchor Cindy Farmer received the inaugural Giving Heart Award, and for the first time sponsors were given the opportunity to choose recipients for Spirit of Philanthropy Awards.

“Laurie and Marion laid out the foundational groundwork of this event, taking NPD to a new level,” said Dale Melton, President of the AFP Triad Board of Directors. “I am confident that our 2018 leadership team and volunteers will ensure its continued success.”

Once again, FOX 8 has signed on as lead sponsor for NPD 2018.

In announcing the 2018 event leadership, Melton called for volunteers to join the NPD committee and help with planning, logistical support, sponsorship advocacy, and the award nominating process.

“It takes a village to get us to our goal!  For professionals new to AFP Triad, this is a wonderful opportunity to connect early and make an important impact in the most public work that we do,” said Weaver.

Interested volunteers or sponsors should contact the co-chairs.
