Better Boards: A Candid Conversation about Board Development, Best Practices and the Role of Boards in Fundraising

Join the AFP Triad Chapter for an engaging, candid conversation with veteran board members, facilitated by Andi Stevenson from Stevenson Wallace, on what makes an effective board, examples of real-life board challenges and successes and lessons learned. Emphasis will be placed on the role of boards in organizational fundraising.

This afternoon workshop is a benefit of AFP Membership and open only to AFP Members and their guests. The workshop will focus on the keys to managing board dynamics, the essentials of board and staff relationships, and the development of strong, confident, best-practice boards that excel in leading and supporting their organizations. This engaging, interactive workshop is also appropriate for
fundraisers, executive directors and board members who attend as guests of AFP Triad Chapter Members.

About the Presenter
The luncheon and workshop will be facilitated by Andi Stevenson, Principle and Founder, Stevenson Wallace LLC. Andi Stevenson is the founder of Stevenson Wallace LLC and a consultant, trainer, and speaker based in North Carolina and working nationally. She leverages 25 years of nonprofit sector experience, a facilitator’s eye for process design and inclusion, and a strategist’s approach to business planning and competitive advantage in her work at Stevenson Wallace. She most recently served as executive director of the Lee Institute, a 501(c)(3) boutique consulting practice serving the social sector through capacity building, strategic planning, civic engagement and leadership development.

A sought-after expert on nonprofit governance and boards of directors, she created and launched the Greater Good: Becoming A Nonprofit Board Member training program for young professionals and the Board Chair Master Class curriculum (the latter in collaboration with Dianne Bailey) while at Lee. Previously, she served as president of Community School of the Arts (Charlotte) and vice president of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts (Philadelphia). Earlier, she worked in development for the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (Fort Worth) and in operations, sales and client service for the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall (Fort Worth) and the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation (eventually the AT&T Performing Arts Center). A frequent speaker, panelist and facilitator, Andi has delivered keynotes at women’s leadership conferences, trained corporate management teams on nonprofit board best practices, moderated panels on next-generation arts leadership and led practitioner roundtables in graduate public administration programs.
